Paul Feig Signs
Superstud
Report by Eden
There was a good crowd at the signing. I'd say about 40-50 people
showed up, mainly clearly fans of Paul, but some just people who
apparently come to all of the bookstore's signing:
Before Paul was introduced, they mentioned that Bruce Campbell was
going to be there in two weeks to plug Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way
and screen his new film, The Man with Exploding Brain (??
something like that). I might have to come back. Then, Paul
came out:
He made several disclaimers about how this book completely embarassed
him, but he felt he owed it to other geeks to let them know they are
not alone. He read a segment on "discovering" that masturbating
will make God take one day off your life for each act and another
segment on searching for G-rated erotica. He then answered some
questions:
• I asked him if he changed the
name of the (unfortunate) women he talked about in the book and whether
he got their permission. He said he did change their names but
didn't tell them about it, and prayed the book would be obscure enough
that they would never find it.
• He will be directing the season
premiere of Arrested Development but will not likely reprise his role
as magic club manager.
• He will soon be directing
Stargirl for Nickelodeon Pictures
• Nice Guys, which he developed
for HBO, was beaten out by Entourage, but may still have a chance, with
Conan O'Brien's production company showing interest.
• He's never seen a good reunion
movie, so don't expect one for Freaks and Geeks.
He then read a deleted chapter on how he worked as Ronald
McDonald and signed books. I brought my yearbook to have him sign
(I did buy a book from the bookstore and own Superstud already, so I
didn't feel too guilty about it. He remembered me and wrote "to
one of my favorites [read: my lawyers have you on my stalker
list]". I then left so I could get back to Madison, stopping by
Peter's display of the original Parisian Night Suit (touched by Joel
Hodgson!) and his personalized action figures.
It was fantastic.
